{"id":321,"date":"2013-12-27T11:25:51","date_gmt":"2013-12-27T11:25:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dralexurology.com\/bladder-cancer\/?page_id=321"},"modified":"2013-10-27T02:39:08","modified_gmt":"2013-10-27T02:39:08","slug":"repeat-tur-transurethral-resection-bladder-tumor-high-risk-bladder-cancer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.dralexurology.com\/bladder-cancer\/repeat-tur-transurethral-resection-bladder-tumor-high-risk-bladder-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Repeat TUR (Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor) for High Risk Bladder Cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Benefit of Repeat TUR (Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor) for High Risk Bladder Cancer<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It is an established fact that for high-risk bladder cancer that includes T1 disease as well as high-grade Ta disease a repeat transurethral resection 3-6 weeks after the initial procedure detects additional disease and a significant number of patients and changes treatment plan leading to improves outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>In fact American Urological Association recommends routine repeat TUR in all patients with high risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.<\/p>\n<p>I can tell from experience few patients are excited about the prospect of undergoing another procedure.\u00a0 However the benefits are clear and I routinely recommend it.<\/p>\n<p>Some patients asked me whether \u00a0innovations including photodynamic therapy with 5-ALA may obviate the need for second resection.
